How it started…
The ICF was initiated as a joint effort by a group of scholars (Ioannis Lianos, Simon Holmes, Julian Nowag, Jean Benoit Maisin, Michelle Meagher) to bridge the gap between competition law enforcers, academia, and the real world. It aims to consider the interests of stakeholders who have been underrepresented in competition law and policy discussions but are affected by anticompetitive behavior.
The ICF serves as an academic platform that connects academia, competition law enforcers, and various stakeholder groups (consumers, trade unions, SMEs, civil society groups focusing on environmental protection, sustainable development, privacy, and fairer economy). Its goal is to promote competition law and policy “in action” research that is socially relevant and useful.
Our Philosophy…
We recognize that competition law enforcement is, in essence, polycentric and needs to be responsive and consider both the need to foster innovation, creativity and growth, and be more inclusive, ensuring equality of opportunities for all and complex equality. In other words, it needs to ensure that markets work for people.
